So I passed out pretty much all night last night and now I’m finally fully rested... I’ve been tweaking the code trying to get things to look a little cleaner and all. But the game doesn’t really have any direction. So for now I need to take some more time and flush out what I actually want the game to be. Here are some of my thoughts -fantasy (elves/humans/orcs/trolls) -Iraq/middle east (US/NATO/terrorists) -mafia (you can be a mob boss or an fbi/ police officer) slowly grow ranks fighting for streets - future (humans, super smart aliens (like the movie predator)/ super strong aliens (like the movie Aliens) - business world (every starts a company and try to do hostile takeovers etc) thoughts... -fantasy is a little played out -iraq - interesting idea but I don’t want to offend half the world population -mafia - could be cool but don’t know how the world would play out - future - nice cause it can go in a lot of directions - business - kinda cool but no satisfaction of e-killing. army of lawyers is kinda weak.....

Okay so I got home around 1:45am last night to start work on the site with a 2 liter of coke and 32oz red stripe. Now THAT’S what I call fuel for inspiration!!! Worked from 2am to about noon and finally laid down and got a solid hour of sleep. I quote kurt cobain from nirvana, that "I’m so tired I can't sleep!!" with that I was able to figure out how to get the resources to accumulate. At first I thought that I would have to constantly be running update statements for every player every couple minutes. But actually it’s much much simpler than that. All I have to do is keep track of what the rate of accumulation is AND when the last time they / or anyone else looked at their resource amounts. ... Hmmm might be getting a little too technical. This blog is not here to really discuss the details of how I’m developing the game. But it’s here to more or less be a place to anecdotally describe its creation.

Well this is my second post in three days so I must be getting serious about this whole.... creating a game thing. I'm planning on coming home early from the bar tonight to start the actual development of the game. I've been spending my downtime at the office at trying to lay the ground work for how this is all going to work. So I'll put it in words what I have now. It will be following a bit of an Age of Empires/ Command and Conquer theme where you have to accumulate resources over time. However unlike those games you won't have to actually be in the game to get more resources. Basically you will get X number of lumber or metal every 5 minutes or something. But anyway... you acquire these resources over time.. And then you can use those resources to either upgrade the rate which you increase resources... OR you can build or barracks or tank factory and build military units. Once you have those you can go and attack other people and steal their stuff and continue growing that way.... anyway that’s the general principal I have for now. I’m sure it’s going to need some more hashing out of ideas...

Well I have made up my mind. I have had enough of this working for a living thing. I am going to start creating my own computer game. I've grown up playing all sorts of crazy Role playing games. I started playing Advanced Dungeons and Dragons at Troy's 5th grade birthday party. The escape from reality was fantastic. We played in the various worlds’ there from Dragonlance, Ravenloft, and a little Forgotten Realms. But mostly I ended up making up some imaginary world and playing there.
Then we started venturing off into other worlds like Shadowrun, Battletech/Mechwarrior, and Star Wars. Then I got so bold as to even try to create my own game world which was set in 1992 (the present at the time). Our games consisted mostly of robbing the local bank and buying limos and mounting machine out of the sun roof. As we got older we moved more into the strategy genre of table top games with games like Risk, Samurai Swords, and Axis & Allies. More weekends then I can remember were spent playing of high school were spent playing Axis and Allies. After high school I went away to college playing sports, drinking and studying sometimes left little time for my geeky exploits.
So that’s a little history of me. I'll leave for another day for me to discuss the origins of this game I’m going to create.
